Chronology of cameras Gaumont

The Gaumont Spido Pliant from 1906-1908 evolved in parallel with the corresponding Spido Universel, and is easily recognisable by the sliding lever on the right side of the body, which controls the shutter cocking. This shutter is a simple non-capping Anschütz focal plane shutter with internal slit width control and was modified and manufactured by Gaumont. Before, the Spido Pliant was fitted with a regular Anschütz shutter. The Spido Pliant doesn’t have a front shutter, and the collapsible body allows for portability, further enhanced by its light construction and single dark slides. It is not possible to fit the 12-plate magazines.

The focal plane shutter delivers instantaneous speeds in the range 1/45 to 1/1000 plus time exposures. The fitted lens is a Krauss Tessar-Zeiss 134mm/f6.3. The front panel has cross and vertical movements. The folding viewfinder on the front panel folds into a slot on the top of the body when closed. It was made for the 9 x 12 cm plate format only.
